Sec. 18-83.  Same - Term of office; vacancies; resignation; compensation.

 

(a)  The term of office of three of the members appointed to the first parks and rec board shall be for one year, the term of office of three of the members appointed shall be two years and the term of three of the members appointed shall be three years, with the computation of the same being from the preceding January.

 

(b) After the appointment of the original board, it shall be the duty of the mayor and city council to appoint or reappoint one-third of the board each year for a term of three years to commence at the time of appointment at the first meeting in January.

 

(c)  In the event that a vacancy shall occur during the term of any member, a successor shall be appointed for the unexpired portion of the term by the mayor with the approval of city council, at the next regular meeting of the city council.

 

(d)  A member whose term has expired may be reappointed for an additional term by the mayor with the approval of city council.

 

(e)  Should any member, including the city representative, miss more than three consecutive meetings without a valid excuse, it will be viewed as abandonment of the position and the member will be removed from the parks and rec board.

 

(f)  The resignation of a member shall be made in writing and sent to both the mayor and to the chairperson of the parks and rec board.

 

(g)  No member of the parks and rec board shall receive pay or compensation for his or her services as a member of such board.
