Snow Emergency Declared Feb. 22

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Madison County from 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22 until 12:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23. Forecasted snowfall is expected to reach 4-6 inches. For public safety and more efficient snow removal, the City of Norfolk has declared a Snow Emergency effective at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 22 until further notice.

City Awarded Grant Funding

The City of Norfolk was recently awarded grant funding to assist with safe street planning. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law established the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program with $5 billion in appropriated funds over the next 5 years. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

1st Street Lane Closure

The City of Norfolk has closed the outside southbound lane on 1st Street from Benjamin Avenue to Elm Avenue.

The snow melt is compromising any patch work completed. The lane will reopen once more of the snow melt dissipates. Repair of this section of road will be contracted out in the spring.

The snow emergency that went into effect 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023 is cancelled effective 3:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2023.
