The Norfolk Fire Division invites the community to participate in a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Veterans Memorial Field on Wednesday, September 11. Many citizens and first responders across the nation take part in memorial stair climbs annually on this date.
“This event started as a small group of Norfolk Fire Reserve Firefighters doing the stair climb each year at our training tower in memory of those lost on 9/11. It has since grown into something larger every year," said Fire Chief Tim Wragge.
“Our team made a commitment last year to expand this into a community event to honor those lost at Ground Zero, as well as responders who have died over the years, both in the line of duty and otherwise. We hope to make this an event the community looks forward to each year, and we are grateful to the City of Norfolk Parks and Recreation team for their help in making it happen,” Wragge added.
To participate in the memorial stair climb, register on the City of Norfolk website's Active HERE. The gates will open at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 9/11 tribute presentation to kick off the stair climb.
