The National Council for Home Safety and Security ranked Norfolk 3rd in regard to overall safety within Nebraska. Norfolk’s population makes it one of the top 10 largest cities in the state. The City of Norfolk exhibits a low violent crime rate comparable to the two preceding entries on the list.
To identify the safest cities, the Council reviews the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics. Any cities that fail to submit a complete crime report to the FBI and cities with populations under 10,000 are eliminated. This left 3,381 cities (out of a total of 9,251).
“This is a significant distinction,” said Mayor Josh Moenning. “It speaks to the high level of excellence and professionalism enculturated within our police, fire and emergency services operations, as well as a community of neighbors who look out and care for each other.”
