The public is invited to participate in a Walk Audit to provide input on the new Multimodal Transportation Action Plan on Wednesday, October 30. The City of Norfolk is collaborating with Toole Design and Olsson Associates to develop a vision for a safer, more comfortable transportation system for all modes of travel, with the goal of eliminating transportation-related deaths and serious injuries.
A walk audit is an assessment of the pedestrian safety, accessibility, and comfort of a particular area. In addition to documenting specific issues and engaging the community in advocating for improvements, walking audit can be most effective when public officials and community members of varying backgrounds, ages and abilities participate so they can experience and react to the conditions directly.
The first Walk Audit is scheduled for 7:30–8:30 a.m. near 1st Street and Omaha Avenue, and the second will take place from 3:00–4:00 p.m. near 13th Street and Norfolk Avenue.
