Update on AquaVenture, Cabin Rentals, and other Facilities

The Norfolk City Council held a special meeting on Monday, June 8th to discuss and take possible action on the process for reopening various city facilities and services. After discussion, City Council voted to open the AquaVenture Water Park with the recommended plan in place as presented by city staff. The anticipated date of opening is on Saturday, June 20, 2020. The extra time prior to opening will allow for necessary training for the water park staff.

As part of health restrictions set by the governor, the water park will be limited to 25% of normal capacity, which is about 330 guests at any given time. Days will be divided into two sessions: 11:30 AM – 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Entry cost will be $5 per person per session. Concessions will be available but limited to prepackaged food and drink. There will be no group swimming lessons, only private lessons. Those interested in swim lessons can call the water park (402) 844-2270 beginning June 15 to sign-up. The private lessons are $13/half-hour session. Water park season passes will not be offered this year.

Staff is also preparing to open the Embrace Park Splash Pad this coming weekend, if all goes as planned. Liberty Bell Pool will not be opening up this summer.

Additionally, cabins at Ta-Ha-Zouka and open air shelter reservations at the parks will resume June 15 beginning at 8:00 a.m. at the city administrative offices located at 309 N. 5th Street, under the normal first come first serve policy. Cabins may be reserved one year in advance. The down payment for the rental may only be made by cash or check, and no change will be given for the payment. We will be following the Public Health Department directives as far as use of the cabins, which is a limit of 25 at this time. That limit may change from time to time according to State health directives. Social distancing and masks are recommended while doing any business at the city offices.

Be sure to check the city website or the city social media pages for additional water park patron requirements and guidance that will be released prior to opening.
