Benjamin Avenue Reconstruction Work to Continue

Reconstruction and widening of Benjamin Avenue from 13th Street east to 1st Street is set to continue Monday, April 3rd. Phase 2 will reconstruct the westbound lanes from Riverside Boulevard west to 13th Street.

Work Continues on First Street

Beginning Monday, March 13 the current closure on North 1st Street will extend south to Norfolk Avenue. Due to this extended closure, Braasch Avenue will not be accessible from 1st Street.  The intersection of Norfolk Avenue will still remain open.

City Awarded Grant Funding

The City of Norfolk was recently awarded grant funding to assist with safe street planning. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law established the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program with $5 billion in appropriated funds over the next 5 years. The SS4A program funds regional, local, and Tribal initiatives through grants to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries.

1st Street Lane Closure

The City of Norfolk has closed the outside southbound lane on 1st Street from Benjamin Avenue to Elm Avenue.

The snow melt is compromising any patch work completed. The lane will reopen once more of the snow melt dissipates. Repair of this section of road will be contracted out in the spring.

Construction to Begin on First Street

Beginning Monday, November 14, a portion of 1st Street will close for the demolition and construction of the 1st Street Bridge.  The full closure will be between Braasch Avenue and Prospect Avenue.  

The area will be accessible to local traffic and construction traffic only.  1st Street is expected to re-open to traffic in summer of 2023.

Norfolk Middle School Traffic Update
