Fire Division

Stay Safe this Firework Season

It is the time of year to celebrate the birth of our nation, and the Norfolk Fire Division wants to remind all residents to use caution and good judgment when using fireworks.

Shooting fireworks is fun as long as everyone remembers that fireworks are explosives and can be dangerous if used improperly. Buy and use only fireworks that you have purchased in the State of Nebraska.

Transportation of fireworks from out of state is illegal, even if they are legal fireworks in Nebraska, and could result in losing your fireworks and a fine. When discharging fireworks, always read and follow the directions on the product and have adult supervision while enjoying the fireworks.

The Norfolk Fire Division recommends that you always have a water hose or bucket of water ready in case a fire occurs. Remember to look up for any overhead obstructions which can alter the path of the firework effect if it hits an obstruction. Also, please remember that ‘If you blow it up, Please pick it up’ and help keep Norfolk beautiful!

As a reminder, the City of Norfolk changed its ordinance for the discharging of fireworks to 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m., June 25-July 3, and from 8:00 a.m. until midnight on July 4th.

The Norfolk Fire Division wants everyone to have a safe and happy Independence Day holiday. If anyone has questions about fireworks sales or discharge, please contact the Norfolk Fire Division at 402-844-2050.
