The Norfolk Fire Division implemented the following for the use of outdoor fireplaces:

Patio type fireplaces are allowed in the City of Norfolk when a burn permit has been issued by the Fire Division. Just come to the station at 701 Koenigstein and fill one out. There is no charge for the permit.

 Permits will be issued annually and will be available for inspection when the unit is in operation. If the Fire Division receives a complaint about smoke in the area you will be asked to extinguish the fire at that time. If multiple complaints about smoke are received, the permit will be revoked and not re-issued.

All outdoor fire places will be placed on a noncombustible surface while in use and shall maintain a 15’ distance from the nearest structure.
