Mission Statement

Norfolk Parks and Recreation will provide great parks, trails, recreation facilities, and programs that benefit all residents through safe and enjoyable experiences that make living in Norfolk the community of choice. 

The City of Norfolk Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to providing top-tier parks, recreation facilities, and programs for the community. To advance this commitment, the City initiated the development of a Parks and Recreation Master Plan aimed at ensuring sustainability, optimizing resources, and maintaining a well-balanced distribution of parks, facilities, and amenities across the City. The Parks and Recreation division maintains all City parks, City owned properties, recreational programs, and a municipal pool in an efficient and safe manner giving the public an aesthetically pleasing and safe environment to enjoy recreationally and leisurely.

The Parks and Recreation division provides the following services:

  •  Maintaining park buildings and landscaped grounds to ensure clean, safe, and welcoming public spaces
  • Overseeing the upkeep and operations of the City pool and AquaVenture water park to provide accessible aquatic recreation for all ages
  • Providing comprehensive grounds maintenance for City-owned properties, including seasonal snow removal on public sidewalks and trails
  • Supporting youth and adult athletics by maintaining athletic facilities used by both public schools and the general public
  • Designing, planting, and caring for flowerbeds and green spaces across City parks, enhancing the visual appeal and environmental health of the community
  • Managing facility reservations, including cabins at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park and open-air shelters at both Ta-Ha-Zouka and Skyview Parks
  • Planning and delivering diverse recreation programs that encourage lifelong learning, fitness, and fun for residents of all ages
  • Coordinating the operation of concession stands at Veterans Memorial Field and Ta-Ha-Zouka ball fields to support local events and sports activities
