City of Norfolk Secures Grant Funding for Softball Complex Improvements

The City of Norfolk is pleased to announce that the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has approved its Fiscal Year 2024 Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) grant application for the Ta-Ha-Zouka Park Softball Complex.

The $511,500 grant will now advance to the National Park Service for final review, marking a significant step toward enhancing Norfolk’s recreational infrastructure.

“We are thrilled to announce that Ta-Ha-Zouka Park is set for a major upgrade. These funds will go toward the expansion of new adult softball fields, addressing the growing demand for recreational sports facilities in our community,” said Parks and Recreation Director Nathan Powell.

“The grant will help us construct a new 300' softball/baseball field, complete with ADA access and state-of-the-art amenities including turf, irrigation, fencing, a backstop, and lighting. This expansion is vital as it will help meet the increasing demand for field space, enabling us to provide more opportunities for people of all ages to participate in sports and enjoy outdoor recreation.” Powell added.

This new field will be located adjacent to the Kohler Softball Complex across McKinley Avenue and is part of the larger Ta-Ha-Zouka Park Master Plan. The goal is to eventually complete a new three-field complex, and the City of Norfolk is continuing to raise funds to make this vision a reality.

“We’re really excited about this project and what it means for our community. The new softball complex will give our athletes a fantastic place to play, and it’s going to be a big draw for tournaments and events that bring people to Norfolk. It’s a win for everyone,” said Mayor Shane Clausen.
