April 10th Press Release 2023

On April 8, 2023, at 4:18 a.m., Norfolk Police responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 400 block of West Bluff Avenue.  A vehicle driven by a seventeen-year-old male collided with a parked car.  Officers had contact with the juvenile and could smell alcohol coming from him.  He was requested to perform filed sobriety maneuvers but was non-compliant with completing these.  He was handcuffed and placed in the back seat of the police cruiser.  During the transport to the jail, the juvenile began to hit his head on the Plexiglas divider in the police cruiser.  The officer stopped the car to check on him.  Once the officer opened the rear door, he kicked at the officer, spit in his face and headbutted the officer.  Once at the jail he refused to walk into the jail, or submit to a preliminary breath test The seventeen-year-old was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol first-offenses, obstructing a peace officer, third-degree assault on a peace officer, assault on an officer with bodily fluids and reckless driving.  He was held in the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center.
