On September 13, 2022 at 8:37 a.m., a Norfolk Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a license plate violation. The Nebraska license plate on the car had a homemade, blue colored, renewal tag, with a hand-written number on it. In addition, the plate did not belong to the vehicle. The officer had contact with driver who was identified as Gerald J. Hasebroock, 36, of Norfolk. A check of his record showed that he had an active Colfax County arrest warrant. He was taken into custody. In a subsequent search, officers located a glass pipe that tested positive for methamphetamine. Hasebroock was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and cited for fictitious license plates and no valid registration. He was held in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail
