Annual Severe Storm Spotter Training set for March 3rd

Even though it doesn’t feel like it, the severe weather season will be here before we know it. A representative from the National Weather Service (NWS) – Valley, NE will be making their annual visit on Tuesday, March 3, at 7 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center (801 E. Benjamin Avenue) to help train professionals and citizens on how best to help the local NWS during severe weather.

This class provides a basic understanding of thunderstorm structure, spotting techniques, reporting criteria, as well as safety information and procedures. The class will last around 90 minutes and is free and open to the public. Although the classes are appropriate for all ages, those who are 10 and older will likely get the most out of the training.

If you are not able to attend the public training there are online spotter courses, field guides, and cloud charts available on the NWS website.

For additional information you can call the Norfolk Fire Division at 402-844-2050 or visit the NWS website
