Applications Being Accepted for Vacant Ward 3 Seat

After notice of the resignation of Councilman Gary Jackson, a City Council seat for Ward 3 is open for applications. On Tuesday, January 17, the resignation of Councilman Jackson was approved. Jackson cited health reasons for the resignation.

“It has been a great honor and pleasure to serve with the city staff, Mayor Moenning, and the current council,” Jackson stated in a letter. “It has been a privileged six years upon being elected by the constituents of Ward 3. I hope the citizens of Norfolk can see what a great city staff, mayor and Council that they have in place.”

“It’s been a pleasure serving with Gary. He was a hardworking, dedicated public servant who always had the best interest of the community at heart. We will miss him and we wish him well,” said Mayor Josh Moenning.

Citizens interested in applying for the seat must be a resident of Ward 3 (southwest quadrant of Norfolk) and submit a written statement of intention and personal resume to the City Administrator’s office no later than 4:30 pm on Thursday, January 26, 2023. The Mayor and City Council may then proceed with interviewing applicants.

A special City Council meeting is set for Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. in the council chambers to fill the Ward 3 vacancy. The person chosen to fill the vacancy will remain in the seat until the term expires in December 2024.
