Emergency Drill Planned

A full-scale emergency exercise is set to take place on Wednesday, April 17. The exercise is planned to last 9:00-11:30 a.m. at the West Water Treatment Plant located at 300 South 49th Street. The exercise play is designed to test the full-scale response, operations, and coordination of the regional first responding agencies and the City of Norfolk.

“This will be a good opportunity for the Norfolk Regional Hazmat Team to train along with other city officials and for the City of Norfolk to open its Emergency Operations Center.  Mutual Aid towns first responders will also be asked to participate as well,” said Bobbi Risor, Region 11 Emergency Manager.

The scenario for the drill involves an increase in the chlorine dosage in the City of Norfolk’s water, resulting in a chlorine leak at the West Water Plant. Residents are advised to exercise caution in the area as there will be first responder vehicles present.
