The Norfolk Fire Division implemented the following for the use of outdoor fireplaces:
Patio type fireplaces are allowed in the City of Norfolk when a burn permit has been issued by the fire division. You can complete the form below and bring it in or fill one out at either station. There is no fee for the permit
Permits will be issued annually and will be available for inspection when the unit is in operation. If the fire division receives a complaint about smoke in the area you will be asked to extinguish the fire at that time. If multiple complaints about smoke are received, the permit will be revoked and not-reissued.
All outdoor fire places will be placed on a noncombustible surface while in use and shall maintain a 15' distance from the nearest structure.
Each permit is a personal privilege and the responsibility of the permit holder. Any fire maybe extinguished and the permit revoked if the permit holder is in violation of the code and/or the fire becomes a nuisance to the neighborhood.
