On April 9, 2021, at 11:13 p.m., Norfolk Police responded to a shooting that occurred at 118 E. Phillip Avenue.  Norfolk Police and Norfolk Rescue responded to the scene and found that a 17 year old and 14 year old males had been shoot.  Both victims were transported to Faith Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The victims, and witnesses at the scene, identified the shooter as Mark A. Arias, 20, of Norfolk.  Officers located Arias at his residence in the 600 block of Spruce and arrested him for first degree assault.  The Nebraska State Patrol assisted with the response to the shooting and search for Arias.  Arias was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.

On April 9, 2021, at 9:50 a.m., an officer was driving through a business’s parking lot in the 1300 block of Monroe Avenue.  The officer saw a parked vehicle with a person sitting in the driver's seat, slumped over against the driver's door.  The officer stopped to check on the driver.  While checking on the driver the officer observed a glass pipe sitting on the center console.  The driver was woken up and identified as Jesse C. Lentz, 39, of Almena Kansas.  In a search of Almena, officer located a small plastic container of methamphetamine, a syringe containing a small amount of liquid, and a pop can that had been used as a Methamphetamine "cooker."  Lentz was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.  He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
