On August 19, 2020, at 1:13 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to assist a Nebraska State Probation officer during a search of a probationer’s residence. The probation officer had located a straw inside of a cigarette container. The straw had a white powder on it. The powder on the straw tested positive for methamphetamine. Melissa Ann Walter, 36, of Norfolk was then arrested for possession of a controlled substance. She was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
National Night Out Cancelation
The Norfolk Police Division has decided to cancel the annual National Night Out event that is held in Central Park. The National Night Out event is an annual community-building campaign that promotes community-police relations. The Police Division is disappointed to have to cancel the event, but because of the uncertainties with what future Directed Health Measure limitations may be and an abundance of caution, we felt that the best action was to cancel the event for this year. The Police Division wants to thank all of the supporters and participants of the past National Night Out events and look forward to working with you on next year’s National Night Out event.
