December 27, 2021 Press Release

On December 25, 2021 at 4:12 a.m., Norfolk Police were notified by Faith Regional ER that two adult male assault victims had come in for treatment.  Officers responded and began an investigation.  It was determined that in the early morning hours of the 25th, there had been a party at a residence in the 200 block of N. 10th Street.  There was a physical disturbance between some of the males, resulting in two of them seeking treatment at the hospital.  Officers also learned that Kalin Bennett, 19, of Norfolk was present during this altercation.  Witnesses stated that Bennett had brandished a firearm with a laser sight during these fights and was illuminating the laser sight on people’s body, making them fear of being shot.  Officers were able to locate Bennett and he was arrested for terrorist threats and use of a firearm to commit a felony. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred the Madison County Jail.  The physical assault investigation is still under investigation.

On December 20, 2021 at 10:52 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to a business in the 200 block of Norfolk Avenue for a male who was acting erratic. The male had been told to leave but returned a short time later.  When officers arrived, they found two men wrestling on the ground.  Officers attempted to handcuff one of the men, but he resisted and would not cooperate.  After a short struggle, the man was handcuffed and identified as Clayton L. Johnson, 46, homeless.  After interviewing witnesses, officers learned that Clayton had been harassing and threatening patrons of the business.  He had actually struck and assaulted the man that he had been wrestling with when officers arrived.  Johnson was arrested for trespassing, disturbing the peace, obstructing a police officer, and third degree assault.  He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
