On January 10, 2024, at 10:21 p.m., a Norfolk Police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle. The driver was identified as Johnathon W. Bratton, 62, of Norfolk. A check of his license showed that it was currently suspended. He was taken into custody. In a subsequent search, officers recovered a small bag of marijuana from him and a large knife, with an eight-inch blade, that was wedged between the driver's seat and the center console of the vehicle. Due to previous felony convictions, he is prohibited from carrying a weapon. He was arrested for driving during suspension, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, and carrying a concealed weapon. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
