On January 1, 2023 at 11:22 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to the area of 3rd Street and Norfolk Avenue for an assault that had occurred between two males.  When officers arrived, they had contact with a 44-year-old male victim.  Other officers located the second male that had been involved, and had identified him as Jeremy J. Heiderman, 36, homeless.  The victim stated that he had been walking his dog and decided to sit on a bench on Norfolk Avenue.  He described that Heiderman was across the street on another bench and began yelling at him.  The victim did not know Heiderman and tried to ignore him.  A short time later Heiderman crossed street and confronted the victim.  Heiderman began arguing with the victim and then shoved him, causing him to fall.  Heiderman then took the victims dog leash and wrapped it around the victim’s neck, while stating that he was going to kill him.  A male witness had arrived in the area and had seen what occurred and had heard what was said.  Once the police were contacted by phone, Heiderman left the area, leaving the leash around the victim’s neck.  After speaking to the victim, witness, and Heiderman, Heiderman was arrested to criminal attempt of second-degree murder.  He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.

On January 1, 2023 at 6:31 a.m., Norfolk Police were called to the 1200 block of Verges Avenue for a disturbance.  When officers arrived, they had contact with Adriana L. Orozco, 23, and Lazaro R. Pavon, 22, both of Norfolk, who were sitting inside a parked vehicle.  Both admitted to being in a verbal argument.  During this contact, the officer could smell marijuana coming from inside the car.  During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered marijuana, cocaine, and drug paraphernalia.  Both individuals were arrested for possession of a controlled substance.  Both were housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.

On December 31, 2022 at 1:16 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Blaine for a disturbance.  Officers had contact with Jay L. Ahrenholtz, 59, of Norfolk and a female that he had been arguing with.  While investigating the disturbance, it was learned that the female had dumped some of Ahrenholtz’s property on the floor of the bedroom.  While officers were speaking to Ahrenholtz in the bedroom, they recovered a short piece of plastic straw from his property that was on the floor.  It tested positive for methamphetamine.  Ahrenholtz was then arrested for possession of a controlled substance.   He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.  

On December 31, 2022 at 5:21 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to a residence in the 200 block of North 12th Street for a disturbance between a juvenile female and adult staff member.  The juvenile victim stated that she and staff member Joanie M. Brugger were in a verbal argument.  During this argument, the victim threw a cup a water at Brugger.  After this occurred, Brugger grabbed the victim knocking her off a chair she was sitting on, and onto the ground.  The victim had broken fingernails and an abrasion at the base of her neck.  Brugger was also interviewed about the incident and video of the incident was reviewed.  Brugger was arrested for third degree assault, child abuse, and tampering with evidence.  She was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
