July 21 Press Release

On July 21*'"'. 2020 at 6:33p.m. Norfolk PD officers were dispatched to the Emergency Room at Faith
Regional after hospital security requested assistance with a male subject that was creating a disturbance.
A family member dropped off the male subject identified as Steven Vargas 21, of Norfolk at the hospital.
Vargas was not cooperative and was causing problems for hospital staff. Hospital staff advised that
because of Vargas' creating a disturbance they had asked him to leave. Vargas refused to leave. The staff
advised there were no medical concerns for Vargas at the time they asked him to leave. Officers asked
Vargas to leave multiple times. Vargas refused to leave and continued to cause a disturbance. Officers
escorted Vargas out of the building. Vargas was told to leave or he would be arrested for trespassing.
Vargas refused and continued to argue with officers. Vargas was again warned that he needed to leave.
Vargas refused to leave the property. Vargas was arrested for 2"^^ Degree Trespassing. Vargas was
booked into the Norfolk PD Jail and later transported to the Madison Count)' Jail.


On July 22"^ 2020 at 4:57a.m. Norfolk PD officers observed a vehicle registered to Karina R. Dieter 48,
of Norfolk. Officers believed Dieter had a Madison County Warrant for her arrest.
The dispatch center confirmed that Dieter had an active warrant. Officers were able to have contact with
Dieter after she stopped in a parking lot in the area of P' and Omaha. Officers arrested Dieter. A baggie
was located on the seat of Dieter's vehicle. The baggie contained methamphetamine. Dieter was booked
into the Norfolk PD jail for the warrant as well as possession of a controlled substance. Dieter was later
transported to the Madison County jail.
