Shooting Press Release


On 07/25/2020 at about 5:30 a.m. Deshawn Gleaton Jr. was taken into custody in Sioux City. The agencies involved in the arrest include the Sioux City Police Department, Woodberry County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol and the U.S Marshall’s Fugitive Taskforce. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office plans to transport him back to the Madison County Jail later this afternoon. We would like to thank the citizens of Norfolk for all the cooperation that was extended to us in helping bring justice to the murder of Hailey Christiansen, 29, of Norfolk.

We believe that Gleaton has left the Norfolk area and that there is no public safety concerns for the City of Norfolk or immediate surrounding area.

On July 24, 2020 at 6:47 a.m., Norfolk Police and Norfolk Rescue were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of Blaine. An adult female had been injured in a shooting incident. The suspect had left the residence prior to officer’s arrival. The victim was transported to Faith Regional Hospital in critical condition. A person of interest in the case is Deshawn Gleaton, 28, of Norfolk. He is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes. He is six foot eight inches tall and weighs 240 pounds. He may be driving a 2007 Grey Buick LaCross with the license plate of 7-B6106.
