The 911 Dispatch Center in Norfolk is experiencing a sharp increase in 911 hang-up phone calls.  This is not unique to our area as advances in cell phone 911 emergency calling has advanced.  911 centers all over the US are experiencing this.  If a 911 call is accidentally made, please stay on the line with the 911 call-taker and explain that it was an accident.  This will save valuable time for the dispatcher as they will attempt to reconnect to the 911 caller to see if there is an emergency.  If no contact is made, officers are dispatched to area where the call was made from to check on the caller.  Simply staying on the line will save valuable time and resources.  Thank you for your cooperation and have a safe summer.
