As Investigators examined the surveillance video of the robbery, they were able to identify the make and model of the gun that was used. Two days later, on March 25th, a gun matching the same make and model of the one used in the robbery, was reported stolen. The owner of the gun identified the suspect as Zachary W. Hansen, 19, homeless. Hansen also fit the physical description of the robbery suspect. A close acquaintance of Hansen was interviewed about the theft of the gun and the actually robbery. Hansen, who is currently in custody for unrelated crimes, was also interviewed. At the conclusion of the investigation, and arrest warrant was issued for Hansen for the charges of robbery, attempted robbery, two counts of use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony, and theft. He is currently being housed in the Nebraska Department of Corrections.

On 3/23/20 at 10:58 p.m., Norfolk Police responded to a robbery at 101 E. Omaha Avenue. An employee of the business described that a male, wearing all black clothing and having his face covered, entered the store and demanded cash from the register while brandishing a handgun. After taking the cash, the male left the store on foot. He then attempted to gain entry into an occupied, parked car on the west side of the business but the car doors were locked. As he was attempting entry, the driver drove away from the scene. The suspect is described as a light-complected male of average weight and about five feet, five inches tall. No injuries were reported during these incidents. This is an active investigation and anyone having information about this crime is asked to call the Norfolk Police Division at 402-644-8700.
