May 24, 2021 Press Release

On Saturday May 22, 2021 at 1:29 a.m., a Norfolk Police officer conducted a DUI investigation and arrested the driver of the vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle was identified as Trey J. Wheeler. 30, of Norfolk. Wheeler seemed to be in a hurry to get out of the area, and distance himself from the vehicle, so officers allowed him to leave the area.  Officers searched the vehicle after the DUI arrest and recovered a small package of cocaine from a cigarette pack that was in close proximity to where Wheeler was sitting.  Wheeler’s cell phone was also close to the cocaine package.  Officers followed up with Wheeler at his residence.  They interviewed him about the incident and cocaine which led them to eventually arrest Wheeler for possession of a controlled substance.  He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.

On May 21, 2021 at 10:23 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to the parking lot of 1700 Market Lane for a protection order violation.  Officers spoke to the female victim who had a protection order against Rafael Ramirez, 19, of Norfolk.  She stated that Ramirez was also in the area of the parking lot and had been throwing rocks at her car and had damaged the rear view side mirrors on the vehicle.  She also showed officers several text messages from Ramirez.  Both of these actions are prohibited by the protection order.  Officers located Ramirez and interviewed him about the damage to the car and text messages.  Ramirez was arrested for a protection order violation. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
