On May 7th, at approximately 9:00p.m. a Norfolk police officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of the 1300 block of Pasewalk Ave.  As the officer approached the vehicle he observed a plastic baggie that contained a white powdery substance in the vehicle.  The officer also observed open alcohol containers.  The driver of the vehicle Arturo Hernandez 24, of Norfolk showed signs of impairment and also provided a sample of breath that tested over the legal limit.  During the investigation the white powdery substance, was field tested and tested positive for cocaine.  Arturo Hernandez had pills on his person that were also determined to be a controlled substance.  Arturo Hernandez was arrested for DUI and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.   The two passengers in the vehicle Ronald Garcia 21, of Norfolk and Oscar Hernandez 23, of Norfolk were arrested for possession of a controlled substance and cited for possession of marijuana.  The three subjects were held in the Norfolk City Jail and later transported to the Madison County Jail.

On May 7th, at 6:28p.m. a Norfolk PD officer observed a vehicle being driven by Bradley R. Bussey 58, of Norfolk.  The officer knew Bussey and knew that his driver’s license was suspended.  A traffic stop was conducted and Bussey was arrested for Driving Under Suspension.  During a search of the vehicle officers located two syringes.  One of the syringes was loaded.  The contents of the syringe field-tested positive for methamphetamine.  Bussey was booked into the Norfolk City Jail for Driving Under Suspension and Possession of a Controlled Substance methamphetamine.  Bussey was later transported to the Madison County Jail.

On May 8th, at 6:39a.m. Norfolk police were dispatched to the hospital emergency room to investigate an assault.  After arriving at the hospital officers were able to speak to the victim.  The victim had visible injuries.  She had marks on her neck, shoulder and a large lump on her head.  The victim told officers that earlier that morning she was assaulted by her boyfriend.  She advised that at approximately 5a.m. she and her boyfriend were returning home from a party and were arguing.  She advised that her boyfriend had pushed her to the ground and got on top of her and held his hand over her mouth to prevent her from screaming for help.  She advised that she was able to escape and started banging on the house to get help.  She advised that the male subject caught her and slammed her head into the house and took her to the ground, got on top of her, and again held his hand over her mouth so she could not scream for help.  Some people came out of the house.  The male suspect then let the victim up.  During the investigation officer went to the location of the assault.  The officers observed evidence that confirmed the victim’s statement.  The officers also spoke to a witness that confirmed the argument between the victim and the suspect.  Officers had contact with the suspect Brent Janzen 26, of Norfolk.  After the officers spoke to Janzen, he was arrested for 3rd Degree Domestic Assault.  Janzen was booked into the Norfolk City Jail and later released on bond.
