November 30th Press Release 2023

On November 29, 2023, at 7:27 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to a business in the 1300 block of West Monroe Avenue. The reporting party advised that a male customer in the drive through window lane was refusing to leave after failing to pay for the food he ordered and stated he wouldn't leave as he had had too much to drink. When officers arrived, they located the white 2015 GMC Sierra Denali still waiting in the drive through lane. Officers had contact with the driver who was identified as Charles K. Magdanz, 65, of Norfolk. During this contact officers could smell alcohol coming from him and asked him to perform field sobriety maneuvers and submit to a preliminary breath test. The results indicated impairment. During the investigation, it was reported that the 2015 GMC Sierra Denali had just been reported stolen from a business in the 1100 block of Riverside Boulevard. Magdanz was arrested for enhanced driving under the influence of alcohol, first offence, and theft of the vehicle. Magdanz 2012 white Chevy Suburban was located in the same parking lot of where the Denali was stolen from. He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
