October 11th Press Release 2022

 

On October 10'^, at approximately 10:41p.m. Norfolk police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of
Michigan Ave. The subject that called the police stated that he had kicked in a window. When officers
arrived on scene, the male subject was located on the front porch of a residence nearby. The subject was
identified at Wayne Hackel 36. of Norfolk. The subject made statements about attempting to kill his
girlfriend. As the officers were on scene the female victim showed up at the police station. The victim
had been able to escape and came to the police station. She advised that Hackel broke into her house
through a window, assaulted, and strangled her. She advised that she couldn't breathe. She advised that
Hackel had a pair of scissors and said he was going to kill her. Hackel made statements to the police
about his intent to kill the victim. Hackel was booked into the Norfolk city jail for Attempted Murder,
Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony, Strangulation, Terroristic Threats, Burglary, Domestic Assault, and
Criminal Mischief. Hackel was later transported to the Madison Co. jail.
