October 24th Press Release 2023

On October 23, 2023, at 8:52 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to a residence in the 600 block of North 11th Street for a female that was out of control, yelling and screaming at roommates, and reportedly threatening to cut them.  When officers arrived, they had contact with tenants of the house as well as Safaa I. Mohammed, 23, of Norfolk.  Mohammed was very agitated, yelling at the roommates and officers.  She would not calm down and was placed in handcuffs during the investigation.  Even after being handcuffed, she refused orders to stop yelling and was taken outside to a police cruiser.  One victim explained that Mohammed had pushed him several times, and on one occasion, knocked him to the floor. Due to Mohammed’s behavior both before and when officers were on scene, officers were concerned if she was not arrested, she would continue to cause problems at the house and damage property.  She was arrested for third degree assault and disturbing the peace.  She was booked into the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.

On October 23, 2023, at 11:02 p.m., Norfolk Police were contacted by a Madsion County Deputy about a protection order violation.  The deputy, who was transporting a prisoner at the time, observed Bruce M. Simonson, 25, of Norfolk, at a residence in the 600 block of South 8th Street.  There is an active protection order against Simonson, prohibiting him from being at the residence.  Officers had contact with Simonson and arrested him for the protection order violation.  He was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madsion County Jail.
