October 5 Press Release

On October 2, 2020 at 10:04 a.m., Norfolk Police received a complaint about a reckless driver. The vehicle had been driving erratically and was just involved in an accident in the 100 block of S. 13th Street. When officers arrived, the driver was sleeping in the driver’s seat. Officers were able to wake the driver who was identified as Samantha J. Brouhard, 35, of Battle Creek. She was questioned about the accident and appeared confused as to where the accident occurred. Officers requested that she perform field sobriety maneuvers. The results indicated impairment, but she tested zero on a preliminary breath test. She was further questioned about drug usage and was eventually arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, first offense. In a subsequent search, officers recovered several syringes containing heroin along with methamphetamine. She was then charged with possession of a controlled substance. She was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.


On October 4, 2020, at 2:15 a.m., a Norfolk Police officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that was driving recklessly in the 1400 block of S. 2nd Street. The officer had contact with the driver who was identified as Lewis D. Schomaker, 32, of Norfolk. During the contact, the officer could smell alcohol coming from the driver. He was then requested to perform field sobriety maneuvers. The results indicated impairment. He was then arrested for enhanced third offense driving under the influence of alcohol. He was housed ion the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.


On October 4th, 2020 at 10:25 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to a business in the 200 block of Norfolk Avenue for a disturbance. It was reported that a female at this location had become aggressive and attempted to choke someone out in the restroom. They provided a description of the suspect. When officers arrived, the suspect was sitting on a bench outside the business. She was identified as Sheryl A. Huss, 50, of Cosby Missouri. Officers located the adult female victim and interviewed her. She stated that Huss confronted her in the restroom and had placed her hands around her neck and assaulted her. Witnesses corroborated the victim’s statements. Huss was also questioned about the incident and then placed under arrest for third degree assault. She was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred to the Madison County Jail.
