Police Division

September 19th Press Release 2023

On September 18, 2023, at 7:10 p.m., Norfolk Police were called to the area of 1300 West Omaha Avenue for multiple reports of a pickup truck driving at high rates of speed with one wheel missing from the vehicle and driving on the rim. As officers searched the area, a call came in advising the vehicle had reached 13th Street and Norfolk Avenue, still traveling at a high rate of speed. While searching the area, an additional report came in reporting the vehicle was driving eastbound on Koenigstein Avenue. An officer was traveling southbound on 7th Street toward Norfolk Avenue and the truck turned northbound from Koenigstein Avenue.  As the vehicle was traveling toward the responding officer in the northbound lane of traffic, the truck crossed over the centerline and approached the officer's car in the southbound lane. The vehicle appeared to be accelerating as the driver was not maintaining control of the vehicle. Just prior to causing a collision, the officer took evasive action and swerved the police cruiser as far to the right side of the roadway as possible and the truck swerved back into the northbound lane of traffic.  The officer then performed a traffic stop near 9th Street and Prospect Avenue.  The officer had contact with the driver who was identified as Brenda K. Sixtos, 34, of Norfolk, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.  A check of her license showed that it was revoked.  She was requested to perform filed sobriety maneuvers and the results indicated impairment. A chemical test of her breath showed a .193 breath alcohol content.  Further investigation would show that the vehicle she was driving was recently stolen.  Sixtos was arrested for theft by unlawful taking, enhanced third offense driving under the influence of alcohol, criminal mischief, and driving during revocation.  She was also cited for willful reckless driving.  County Jail records show that Sixtos was released from the Madison County Jail at 1:57 p.m. on September 18, 2023.  She was housed in the Norfolk City Jail and later transferred back to the Madison County Jail
