September 29th Press Release 2023

On September 28, 2023, Norfolk Police continued their investigation into three missing male juveniles, who were believed to be all together.  At 4:46 p.m. Norfolk Police took the report of a stolen blue 2004 Cadillac Escalade from the 700 block of South 9th Street. At about this same time, a witness reported seeing the missing juveniles in the 500 block of Roland in a blue Escalade and that one had a pistol concealed in his pants.  A Norfolk officer saw the Escalade and attempted a traffic stop at 8th Street and Prospect Avenue.  The Escalade sped away southbound on 8th Street toward Norfolk Avenue.  The officer did not pursue.  The Escalade continued southbound across Norfolk Avenue, ran the stop sign at 8th Street and Madison Avenue, and collided with a westbound Chevy pickup. The force of the collision pushed the two cars into a third unoccupied parked vehicle.  Norfolk Police, Norfolk Rescue, and the Nebraska State Patrol all responded to the scene.  The three juveniles in the Escalade and the driver of the Chevy pickup were all transported to Faith Regional Hospital with injuries.  All three vehicles were a total loss.  Alcohol and a .45 caliber handgun were recovered from the Escalade.  Norfolk Police specialized Accident Investigation Team was called in to investigate the accident.

The juvenile male driver, 15 years of age, was cited for possession of stolen property, flight to avoid arrest and minor in possession of alcohol.  One 14-year-old passenger was cited for possession of stolen property, juvenile in possession of a handgun, and minor in possession of alcohol.  The third juvenile, 14, was cited for possession of stolen property and minor in possession of alcohol.  This same juvenile had an outstanding arrest detainer and was transported to the Madison County Juvenile Detention Center after he received medical treatment.  The two other juveniles were released to their parent's or guardian's custody.
