Fire Reserves

The Norfolk Fire Reserves were created in 1982 to supplement the paid fire fighting staff. Training is twice a month on the first and third Tuesday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.  Reserves respond to call backs to assist paid staff.  They are an integral part of fulfilling the response demand for Norfolk Fire when additional manpower is needed.  They are paid quarterly based on paged call back responses and training hours.  A life insurance and Accidental Death policy are provided to all Reserves.

To qualify for the Reserves, candidates must successfully complete an application, physical course and interview.  If successful, the candidates attend training for a probationary period prior to responding to calls. The reserves are fully outfitted in bunker gear and are included in the paging process when additional manpower is needed.
