North Fork Whitewater Park

Construction continues on the whitewater park. We expect to have the park completed by early summer in 2024. This whitewater park will be open to the public with the first access point at Winter Park, and the remaining access points at Johnson Park in Norfolk.

There will be seven whitewater drop features in the river. Safety training courses will be provided by the Parks and Recreation Division. Check our Active page for courses and registration: Norfolk Parks & Rec Active Page. The whitewater features are for beginner/intermediate level river recreation enthusiasts.

There will be one river surfing feature. River surfing will have a consistent flow. Flow rates will be available on the Norfolk Parks and Recreation website. The surfing feature is for intermediate level river surfing enthusiasts.

Parking will be available at Johnson Park. There is trail access to the first and last drop structures from Johnson Park. There is no cost to use the river with access for everyone. Patrons are encouraged to bring your own kayak, paddle board, tube, surfboard or contact local outfitters for rental information.
