Construction to Begin on First Street

Beginning Monday, November 14, a portion of 1st Street will close for the demolition and construction of the 1st Street Bridge.  The full closure will be between Braasch Avenue and Prospect Avenue.  

The area will be accessible to local traffic and construction traffic only.  1st Street is expected to re-open to traffic in summer of 2023.

Input Needed For Highway Corridor Beautification

The City of Norfolk is requesting public input for a Landscape Master Plan for the beautification of the Highway 81 and Highway 275 corridors. 

Norfolk first initiated the Landscape Master Plan Study in 2009, when it was presented to the Mayor and City Council.  The plan recommends landscape improvements and design guidelines to enhance the appearance of major roadway corridors in the city.

Traffic Shift on Benjamin Avenue

Reconstruction and widening of Benjamin Avenue from 13th Street east to 1st Street continues to progress and motorists will notice a change in traffic as work moves to the north.

Motorists will see a change in traffic flow beginning the Thursday, August 11 commute on Benjamin Avenue as traffic will be shifted to the south side just east of the Norfolk Family YMCA exit. Traffic will be routed back to the north side with one lane for eastbound and one lane for westbound traffic through the construction zone.

Trail Construction Set to Start

Work is set to begin on the East Benjamin Avenue Trail Project on Monday, July 18. Steve Harris Construction will construct the trail, beginning on Victory Road and Sycamore Street, going north to Benjamin Avenue, and then east to Highway 35.
